Porta Potty Rental for General Contractors

Victory Portable Restrooms supplies job site porta potties to general contractors across the Temecula Valley and Riverside County from our yard in Murrieta. You get construction portable toilets and hand-wash stations in the counts Cal/OSHA requires, serviced every week, with one phone number that also covers dumpsters and temporary fence. Construction units start at $189 per 28 days with weekly service included, plus a delivery and pickup fee.

How many porta potties does a general contractor need on site?

California requires one toilet for every 20 employees or fraction of 20, and one hand-wash station on the same ratio (Cal/OSHA Title 8 §1526 and §1527). As the general contractor, count everyone on the site on its busiest day, including subcontractor crews.

Workers on site Toilets required Hand-wash stations required
1 to 4 1 1 (may be inside the unit)
5 to 20 1 1, outside the unit
21 to 40 2 2
41 to 60 3 3
61 to 80 4 4
81 to 100 5 5

Four points catch contractors out:

  • "Fraction thereof" rounds up. Twenty-one workers means two toilets, not one.
  • The rule is written per sex. It calls for separate facilities for each 20 employees of each sex. Single-user portable toilets marked for all-gender use can count toward the total when every single-user unit on the site is marked that way (8 CCR §1526).
  • Hand washing sits outside. With portable toilets, the wash station must be outside the unit and not attached to it. The only exception is a site with fewer than five workers and a single toilet.
  • Clean and stocked is part of the rule. Toilets must be kept clean, in working order and supplied with toilet paper. Cal/OSHA does not set a pumping schedule, so the service plan is yours to get right.

These are minimums. Sites with long walks between work areas, multi-story work or summer heat usually run more units than the minimum. The full breakdown is in our Cal/OSHA porta potty guide.

What do you supply for a job site?

How does weekly service work?

Every unit on a 28-day rental is serviced once a week. On each visit the driver:

  1. Pumps the holding tank.
  2. Washes and sanitizes the interior.
  3. Recharges the tank with fresh water and deodorizer.
  4. Restocks toilet paper.
  5. Refills the water and soap in hand-wash stations.

Service runs on a set route, which is how we keep pricing competitive. You can request a specific service day. If your site needs a day that requires a special trip, the price may change. Tell us about pours and large deliveries so the truck does not arrive in the middle of one. Sites with heavy use can add a second weekly visit, and you can add or remove units as the crew size changes from grading through finish.

The driver needs to reach each unit with the truck's hose. If the site layout changes, tell us. We can move a unit when we are on site for your regular service. If you need it moved sooner and we have to make a special trip, a relocation fee applies, and the amount depends on the location.

Where should units go on the site?

  • Close to the work. A unit nobody wants to walk to does not get used. On larger sites, split units between work areas.
  • On firm, level ground, clear of traffic lanes and equipment swing.
  • Within reach of the service truck, with a clear path every week.
  • Away from storm drains. California's construction stormwater guidance recommends keeping portable toilets about 50 feet from drainage where the site allows (CASQA WM-9). If your project has a SWPPP, the portable toilet location belongs on it.
  • Off the public street unless you hold an encroachment permit from the city or county.
  • Secured in wind. Exposed sites and hilltops should have units staked or tied down.

General contractor FAQ

Can hand sanitizer take the place of a hand-wash station? No. Cal/OSHA requires a washing station with water, soap and single-use towels or a dryer. Hand sanitizer does not replace it.

Can my subs share the units I rent? Yes, and they count toward your total. Size the order for everyone on site, not only your own employees.

Does the unit have to be ADA-accessible on a construction site? Federal accessibility standards exempt portable toilets used only by construction personnel on a construction site (U.S. Access Board). Many contractors still order one accessible unit because it has more room. Public-facing sites and events follow different rules.

How much notice do you need? We offer same-day and next-day delivery. Call as early as you can for multi-unit orders.

What happens if a unit is tipped or damaged? If a unit is tipped over or damaged, call us and we will reset, clean or replace it. The renter is responsible for damage beyond normal wear, and a service fee may apply.
