Porta Potty Rental for Demolition Contractors
On most demolition jobs the building's own restrooms are the first thing to go: the water is shut off, the fixtures come out, and the crew still needs somewhere to go. Victory Portable Restrooms delivers porta potties and hand-wash stations to demolition contractors from our Murrieta yard, set up outside the work zone and moved as the site is cleared. Construction units start at $189 per 28 days with weekly service, plus a delivery and pickup fee.
Is an interior strip-out different from a full demolition?
Yes, and the toilet plan changes with it.
| Job | What happens to the building's restrooms | What usually works |
|---|---|---|
| Interior strip-out or soft demo (tenant space, office, retail) | Often still plumbed at first, but the owner or landlord may close them to crews, or they are on the strip list | One portable toilet and one hand-wash station outside the suite, near the dumpster and the loading door |
| Selective demolition (one wing, a garage, an addition) | Remaining building stays occupied, so its restrooms are off-limits | Units on the side of the lot away from the occupied part |
| Full structure demolition (house, commercial building) | Water and sewer are disconnected and capped before or early in the job | Units at the edge of the lot, outside the fall zone, from day one |
| Site clearing after demolition (slab, foundations, flatwork) | None left | Units that move closer to the remaining work as the pad opens up |
On a strip-out in an occupied center or office building, ask the property manager before assuming the crew can use the building's restrooms.
How many portable toilets does a demolition crew need?
Cal/OSHA requires one toilet and one washing station for every 20 employees or fraction of 20 on a construction site (8 CCR §1526, §1527). With five or more workers, the hand-wash station must stand outside the portable toilet and not be attached to it.
| Peak crew on site | Toilets | Hand-wash stations |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 4 | 1 | 1 |
| 5 to 20 | 1 | 1, outside the unit |
| 21 to 40 | 2 | 2 |
| 41 to 60 | 3 | 3 |
Demolition crews change by phase. The abatement contractor may be first, then a strip-out crew, then operators and laborers for the structure, then a smaller crew loading out and breaking up the slab. Size the order for the busiest phase, and call us to add or pull units as the headcount moves. Our Cal/OSHA porta potty guide covers the rule in detail, and the unit count guide helps with longer jobs.
Why do hand-wash stations matter more on demolition?
Lead paint, concrete and masonry dust and other residue end up on hands and faces, and workers then eat and drink on break.
Cal/OSHA has a separate washing rule for this. Where employees work with "substances which may be harmful to the employees," washing facilities must be provided in near proximity to the worksite and equipped so employees can remove those substances, with enough water, soap and single-use towels or a blower (8 CCR §1527(a)(2)). Work that disturbs lead also has its own hygiene requirements under the construction lead standard (8 CCR §1532.1).
In practice that means a hand-wash station at the point where crews leave the work area, not only one next to the toilet. Our hand-wash stations are two-sided units with a 22-gallon fresh water tank, refilled with water, soap and paper towels on every service visit. Our portable toilets do not have hand sanitizer dispensers, and sanitizer does not take the place of soap and water for this kind of dust.
Where should the portable toilet go on a demolition site?
- Outside the fall zone. Keep units well clear of any wall, roof or structure coming down, and of the area where debris is dropped or chuted.
- Out of equipment swing. Excavators and loaders rotate and reverse all day. Set the unit where no machine has to work around it.
- Upwind of the dust. A unit downwind of the work gets coated inside and out.
- Near the exit path. Put the toilet and wash station where workers walk out of the controlled area, so washing up happens on the way to the unit and to break.
- Within reach of our truck. The unit needs to sit within about 30 feet of where our service truck can park, with a path that is not blocked by debris piles or roll-off containers.
- Off the street unless you hold an encroachment permit. Our permit guide explains who issues them.
On windy or exposed sites, ask us about staking or tying down the units. If debris does hit a unit or a machine knocks it over, call us and we will reset, clean or replace it. The renter is responsible for damage beyond normal wear, and a service fee may apply.
Why do demolition start dates move?
Toilet delivery should follow the real start date, not the bid date. Three things commonly move it.
- Asbestos survey and notification. South Coast AQMD Rule 1403 requires the building to be thoroughly surveyed for asbestos before any demolition or renovation, and the District must be notified no later than 10 working days before demolition begins (South Coast AQMD Rule 1403; AQMD survey requirements). If abatement is needed, it comes first, and its crew may need a unit before your crew arrives.
- Dust control. South Coast AQMD Rule 403 bars dust that stays visible beyond the property line and requires best available control measures during active operations (South Coast AQMD Rule 403). Windy days can stop work or slow it to keep dust in check.
- Demolition permits. In unincorporated Riverside County, the demolition permit application includes the AQMD Rule 1403 notification form, and the permit becomes invalid unless the work is completed within 180 days of issuance (County of Riverside Building and Safety demolition permit). Inside a city, the city's building department issues the permit, for example City of Temecula Building & Safety.
We offer same-day and next-day delivery, so you do not need to commit to a date before the permit and the AQMD notice are in place. Every day is different. The earlier you call, the better the chance of same-day delivery. We answer 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, and the same number 24 hours a day for emergencies.
Can the units move as the site is cleared?
Yes. The unit that started at the back of the lot may end up in the way of the load-out, or far from where the crew is breaking up the slab.
We can move a unit when we are on site for your regular service. If you need it moved sooner and we have to make a special trip, a relocation fee applies, and the amount depends on the location.
How does service work on a short, busy job?
Every unit on a 28-day rental gets weekly service: the driver pumps the tank, cleans the interior, restocks toilet paper and refills the hand-wash station. Job site rentals bill in 28-day periods.
Demolition jobs are often short and crowded. A large crew or hot weather can fill a unit before the next weekly visit, so ask for an extra service visit or an extra unit for the peak days. Extra visits are quoted when you call.
Service runs on a set route, which is how we keep pricing competitive. You can request a specific service day. If your site needs a day that requires a special trip, the price may change.
Give us two business days' notice for pickup when you can, and we will pull the units once the last load leaves.
Can I get the dumpster and fence from you too?
Our sister company Victory Dumpsters supplies demolition dumpsters for debris, concrete and strip-out waste. We can arrange temporary fence panels through our partners to close off the site, with a 3-day lead time. Ask about bundle pricing when you order portable toilets together with a dumpster or fence. Where do you deliver for demolition jobs?

Demolition contractor FAQ
Do I need a portable toilet for a one-week strip-out? If the building's restrooms are closed to your crew or on the strip list, yes. Cal/OSHA's toilet and washing ratio applies to demolition crews like any other construction crew.
Can the abatement crew use the same units? Yes, if they are on site at the same time, count them in the total. Abatement contractors often have their own decontamination and washing setup. Confirm with them what they bring.
Can a unit sit inside the building during a strip-out? Usually not, because our service truck has to reach it. Plan for a spot outside near the loading door.
Do you provide insurance certificates for the property owner? Yes. We provide certificates of insurance, including additional-insured certificates, on request.
Can I lock the unit overnight on an open site? You can padlock a unit overnight with your own lock. Leave it unlocked, or give us the combination, on service day.
