Three things to know before you order in Cabazon
1. The wind
Cabazon sits in the narrow part of the San Gorgonio Pass, beside the Pass wind farms. National Weather Service advisories for the Pass have forecast west winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts of 50 to 65 mph (Patch), and Cabazon recorded the top gust in the Pass during one recent countywide wind event (Patch).
An empty portable toilet is a tall, light box. State stormwater guidance says that in high winds units should be secured to prevent overturning (CASQA WM-9). In Cabazon we plan for that from the start:
- Place the unit on the downwind side of a building, wall or container where one exists.
- Turn the door away from the prevailing west wind so it does not slam open.
- On windy or exposed sites, ask us about staking or tying down the units.
- Keep units off soft sand shoulders where the service truck can bog down.
Tell us what the site looks like when you call. A photo helps.
2. Whose land it is
Cabazon is unincorporated. There is no city hall, and the 2020 census counted about 2,600 residents (U.S. Census Bureau). Which rules apply depends on the parcel.
| Location | Who sets the rules |
|---|---|
| Private land in the Cabazon community | Riverside County |
| County road right-of-way | Riverside County Transportation, by encroachment permit (County Transportation) |
| Morongo Reservation land, including the casino resort area | The Morongo Band of Mission Indians. Reservation land is held in trust by the federal government (Senate Report 114-204), so ask the tribe what approvals it requires for work, vendors and events. County permits described on this page do not cover it. |
| Inside a shopping center | The property owner's management office, in addition to the county |
If you are unsure, ask the property owner before you order. On reservation land, get the tribe's requirements for outside vendors in writing first. We deliver to the Morongo reservation, and the tribe's own approvals may apply. We provide certificates of insurance, including additional-insured certificates, on request.
3. The distance
From 26245 Monroe Ave in Murrieta we drive to Beaumont by I-215 and SR-60, or by SR-79 through Lamb Canyon, then east on I-10 past Banning. Cabazon is roughly 45 miles from the yard. We do not promise same-day delivery here. Ask when you call and we will tell you the next run. Every day is different. The earlier you call, the better the chance of same-day delivery. We do not serve Palm Springs or the rest of the Coachella Valley.
Who rents portable toilets in Cabazon?
Commercial and tenant work on Seminole Drive. Desert Hills Premium Outlets at 48400 Seminole Drive is a large outlet center, with Cabazon Outlets next door. Build-out, paving and landscape crews often cannot use customer restrooms, or work when the center is closed. See commercial construction and grading and paving.
Utility, road and energy crews. I-10, the rail line and the wind and power corridor all run through the Pass. Crews on linear jobs work far from any building. Cal/OSHA still requires one toilet and one hand-wash station per 20 workers or fraction, and one single-user unit for a crew under five (8 CCR §1526, §1527). See public works and the Cal/OSHA guide.
Homes and lots in the community. Owner-builders, manufactured-home installs and remodels. Dumpsters for the same job come from our sister company, Victory Dumpsters.
Events. Parking-lot promotions, community gatherings at the county's James A. Venable Community Center on Carmen Avenue, film and photo shoots around the roadside dinosaurs on Seminole Drive, and private parties. See corporate events, film shoots and community events. Event rentals start at $189 per unit.
Does a Cabazon event need a county permit?
On private land under county rules, a small gathering usually does not. A larger or commercial one does. The county asks for the temporary event application at least 60 days ahead, or 90 days for the larger tiers and commercial events (Riverside County Planning, supplemental form). The exemptions depend on lot size and head count (filing instructions). The county does not print a toilet ratio. It wants a sewage and water plan approved by Environmental Health.
For the count, use the PSAI chart in our calculator guide, then add for heat. PSAI notes that hot weather raises demand (PSAI), and Cabazon is desert. At a public event, 5 percent of clustered units, and at least one, must be accessible (CBC §11B-213.2). Our permit guide has more.
